I love working with new families in the early days. I think capturing that new connection is so important. This is why I aim to photograph all newborns at home - with their family - where they should be.
I don't do any formal posing with the babies, but focus on connection between baby and their new surroundings.

01. where do we do the newborn session?
Your home!
So let's start with the most important thing - your house doesn't need be a magazine style house to have beautiful photographs of your family. I have worked around renovations, construction, messy areas and low light situations and still delivered beautiful images. I just need a window, a baby and all the love you have.
02. but my house isn't spotless! do i have to make sure it looks perfect first?
HEY new mom, here's what we aren't going to do - we aren't going to spend your first days at home with your baby deep cleaning and redecorating for your upcoming newborn session. There's so much happening right now the last thing I want to add is more stress to your plate. Tidy up a bit, put everyone in some casual clothes and just enjoy each other. I'll move things if necessary and take a little help in post production if necessary.
03. how old should baby be for the session?
Because I don't do formal posing and I don't require baby to be asleep and ultra-flexible we can go as early as 1 week or wait up to 3-4 weeks to do the newborn session. To me - the sweet spot is right in the middle at about 2 weeks old. This gives baby times to grow into their features, get rid of any post-birth swelling and allows mama to heal up a bit and be comfortable for the session.
04. how long does it take?
The session can take anywhere from 45 minutes -1.5 hours. A sleeping baby makes things go a lot smoother for transitions and posing so ideally you would feed and change about an hour before I arrive so baby can rest on a fully tummy. The first lesson we learn as parents is that things don't always going to go as planned. So if your baby is wide awake please don't stress - we let baby lead the way and keep the focus on keeping them comfortable.
